THERAPHYPROGRAMME

Back to the childhood
  • OT involving into the work with Street Children
    in summer camp

3
Background of the project
  • In Lithuania there are 3 millions 491 thousand
    people.
  • According to the data from the Department of
Statistics, in the beginning of the year 2005,
    there have lived 746,300 (20 ) children, 365,149
    boys and 350,070 girls.

4
  • 3267 children lost the ward ship of their
    parents.
  • 41 of them were not older than 7.
  • Only 10 of the children were orphans.
  • The biggest part of homeless children was from
    the socially rotten families.

5
  • According to the data of the services of
childs right protection, during the year 2005
the number of orphans and homeless children has
increased by 306 and at the end of the year the
total number was 14,5 thousand, from which more
than half had been taken care of in the families,
the others in various children care institutions.

6
  • Children on the Street - children who spend
most of their time working on the streets, yet
keep in touch with their family and usually do
not sleep on the streets. Street is the place
where they can find a job, bed and panhandle in
order to maintain their selves and support their
family. (UNICEF provides with this definition)

7
  • Homeless youth are the individual younger than 18
years old, living without the appropriate care of
their parents, tutors or related institutions.
  • A big part of homeless youth has left their home
because of physical and emotional violence,
harmful habits of family members and lack of
    attention from their parents.

8
  • We are going to perform our project because
kids spending their time in streets are very
urgent and painful problem in Lithuania.

9
  • Usually, these kids dont attend the school and
cant get any profession or education
  • Smoking, alcohol and drug usage is widespread
among children of the street and already become
    part of their life
  • The main part of street children suffer from
physical violence (commonly boys) and sex abuse
    (commonly girls)
  • Children, that take drugs and practice risky
sexual behavior, have to be appreciated as a
carries of dangerous disease in our society, like
    HIV/AIDS

10
  • On the 31st of January 2001 police established a
Day centre for children, which was registered at
    Vilnius City municipality.
  • The main task of this centre is early prevention
of drug addiction and criminality by rendering
    social, psychological, material help and
organizing leisure of street children and young
    people.
  • The founder of the club is Vilnius City Chief
    Police Commissariat.

11
  • About 80 visitors of the centre are children
entered in to the risk records and preventive
police lists as well as teenagers from
    problematic, socially supportable and large
families, who have violated the law, have
difficulties in attending the school or learning,
do not work or study, have affective and behavior
    problems and street children.

12
  • This centre organizes summer camp Funny team
every summer. The camp is located in recreation
    territories, which is organizing childrens
    leisure and strengthening their health.
  • Children spend 14 days in this camp, which is
located in Rudininku village, in the base of
Department of the Interior. There are military
activities, sports, different games every day
from morning till 4 p.m. After that children have
    free time.
