And it is a very popular story.

Why the snake has a pattern
After the Gods had created all animals and
people, the snake was grey and dull. All the
animals in the Jungle laughed at him.

But one day a painter came and the snake decided
to watch him. While the painter was painting the
snake got splashed with different colours.

The snake went back to the other animals to show
off his new look. They thought it was so good
that they went to the painter but he was gone.

Thats how the snake got its pattern.
