  • Three phases research, piloting and national
    roll-out.

  • SME owner managers hard to reach
  • Time poor
  • Not interested in traditional courses and
    qualifications
  • Any solutions must be linked to their current
    business needs
  • Personal learning goals and business inextricably
    combined

Design

Pilot phase 2005/2006

Pilots
  • Once we had recruited 23, very little fall out
  • Realised very quickly that this was a winner
  • 2 very smoothly run programmes and one not. We
    learned as much from the latter as the former.
  • Evaluation results very positive
  • Able to derive some best practice principles from
    the project and recommendations for the rollout.

Evaluation
  • Delivered tangible business benefits and
    leadership learning development for participants
  • 15 mini case studies in the evaluation report
  • Cost savings of 2,000 per month for one business
  • A business and action plan based on a 25
    increase in turnover for another
  • Two companies that had been saved from
    potential failure one due to the leaders lack
    of motivation and the other due to the leaders
    imminent retirement.
  • Individual participants described personal
    improvements in many areas, including a better
    work-life balance, improved time management,
    greater confidence to change the company,
    improved delegation, increased personal
    motivation
