Howard Carter(1874-1939)
  • Kensington
  • At the age of 17 he set sail for Alexandria
  • Bani Hassan he worked as a tracer, copied the
    scenes from the walls of the tombs
  • 1899 he became the First Chief Inspector General
    of Monuments for Upper Egypt

  • 1905 he resigned because of an incident
  • Re-stationed to Tanta
  • Next four years as a watercolour painter and
    dealer in antiquities
  • 1907 he met Lord Carnarvon
  • Numbers of excavation but not spectacular
    discoveries, until 1922 when one of Carters
    labourers stumbled upon a stone step

  • The discovery of the tomb of the famous
    pharaohTUTANKHAMON
  • Egyptian Pharaoh, reigning from 1361 B.C. to
    1352 B.C., during the 18th dynasty.
  • In the Valley of the King
  • More than 3500 findings,
  • that was the richest tomb!

  • 1939 he died
  • His discovery shook not only the world of
    Egyptology but caught the imagination of a much
    wider public!!!

  • One of the gratest Hungarian Egyptologist!
  • 1956 he admissioned to the Eötvös Loránd
    University
  • He became the candidate of the Hungarian Academy
    of Science

  • 1964 an expedition to Abu-Simbel
  • 19 years after
  • 1983 he was the leader of a Hungarian expedition
    in the Cemetary of the Nobles
  • The ground plan of the tomb

  • He spent years in Egypt getting into a closer
    connection with the people
  • Liked the atmosphare
  • That was his most imprtant discovery in his life

  • He taught generations of Egyptologists, and the
    disciplined amateurs collected the most of their
    knowledge from his books first of all The Sons
    of Ra, a general work on culture and history of
    Ancient Egypt, which commonly called The Kákosy
