I. What is an indirect object?

• An indirect object (IO) answers the questions
  to/for whom? something is happening.
• The IO is indirectly receiving the action of the
  verb.

A. English Note the IO can be preceded
by to in English.

• What is the IO in each of the following
  sentences?
• Ex1 I give José the prescription.
• José
• Ex2 They speak to us.
• (to) us
• Ex3 She writes you a letter.
• you

B. Spanish

• In Spanish, the IO has the same grammatical
  function.
• The IO is always preceded by a (to) in Spanish!

II. Indirect object pronouns

• In Spanish, we replace IOs with IOPs.
• Note, you have been doing this with gustar.
• We do the same thing in English as well.
• Ex I give José the prescription
• I give him the prescription

  verb (same as when using gustar).
