Tension on Hanging Mass

• Begin by hanging one mass on a mass hanger.
  Record the weight (in Newtons) from the scale.
• Place a second scale on the opposite side of the
  mass. Hold so that both scales are vertical and
  parallel to one another. Record the weight on
  each scale.
• Gradually increase the angle between the scales.
  Describe what happens to the force measured on
  each scale.
• Attempt to hold each scale parallel to the floor.
  What happens to the measure of force?
• Return the scales to a 60 angle relative to the
  floor. Record the force on each scale.
• Do a theoretical calculation of the force using
  Newtons laws. How does it compare to the
  observed?
