5Luke 191-10 Jesus entered Jericho and was
passing through. A man was there by the name of
Zacchaeus he was a chief tax collector and was
wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but
being a short man he could not, because of the
crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig
tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and
said to him, Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I
must stay at your house today. So he came down
at once and welcomed him gladly.
6Luke 191-10 cont All the people saw this and
began to mutter, He has gone to be the guest of
a sinner. But Zacchaeus stood up and said to
the Lord, Look, Lord! Here and now I give half
of my possessions to the poor, and if I have
cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back
four times the amount. Jesus said to him, Today
salvation has come to this house, because this
man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man
came to seek and to save what was lost.
7A Maltese Vacation 1. Christ-followers should
receive hospitality from others.
8The time-honored practice of hospitality is so
exceedingly rare today that just doing it at all
speaks volumes about what it means to be a
Christian in a world of strangers. - David Fitch

deity Dike, the daughter of Zeus, was believed

Christ-followers are never completely on
vacation. 3. God honors his workers and those who
welcome them.
12When you enter a house, first say, Peace to
this house. If a man of peace is there, your
peace will rest on him if not, it will return to
you. Stay in that house, eating and drinking
whatever they give you, for the worker deserves
his wages. Do not move around from house to
house. When you enter a town and are welcomed,
eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are
there and tell them, The kingdom of God is near
you.
13But when you enter a town and are not welcomed,
go into its streets and say, Even the dust of
your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off
against you. Yet be sure of this The kingdom of
God is near. I tell you, it will be more
bearable on that day for Sodom than for that
town. Luke 105-12
14One subliminal message of this narrative is that
such reciprocity or friendship relationships
can and should exist between Christians and
pagansthe narrative undermines any tendency for
Christians to regard the world in general as
hostile and evil. - Ben Witherington
15Hospitality opens the door to Gods work and
blesses all involved.
