Title: CELL%20DIVISION
1CELL DIVISION
MITOSIS
2Stages of Cell Division
1. Interphase 2. Prophase
3. Metaphase 4. Anaphase 5. Telophase
3Interphase
Cells begin to prepare for division. Chromosomes
appear more visible with a thread-like appearance.
4Prophase
Chromosomes shorten and thicken forming
Chromatids. Nuclear membrane disappears the
spindle fibres begin to appear.
5Metaphase
The chromatids arrange themselves on the
equator (middle) region of the cell.
6Anaphase
Spindle fibres stretch and the chromatids
separate and move to opposite ends.
7Telophase
Cell membrane divides into two (2) producing
daughter cells for each cell.
8Complete Division
In Mitosis, the cells regain their nuclear
material and division is complete. While its
not complete in Meiosis because chromatids still
lack a thread-like appearance.
9Importance
- Leads to growth because it adds new
- cells to already existing cells.
- Repairs body parts of living organisms.
- Helps in asexual reproduction like
- binary fission, micro-organisms and
- vegetative reproduction in plants.
