CADET PHYSICAL TRAINING PROGRAM
  • IAW AFROTCMAN 36-201

PURPOSE
  • Enhance fitness level of cadets prepare you to
    meet AFROTC and AF standards
  • Motivate cadets to pursue a physically fit and
    active lifestyle
  • Improve safety and efficiency of physical
    training

CADET REQUIREMENTS
  • Cadet participation is MANDATORY!
  • Howard Cadets MUST attend Physical Training twice
    a week at Howard
  • Crosstown Cadets MUST attend Physical Training at
    Howard on TUESDAYs and turn in PT Tracker
  • Must attend 80 of the required PT activities for
    the term
  • 20 Sessions Offered 16 Sessions 80
  • Must make good faith effort in improving,
    making satisfactory progress

CADET REQUIREMENTS
  • PRIOR TO BEGINNING PT PROGRAM
  • Must have DoD physical or provide a
    Pre-Participator Sports Physical for medical
    clearance
  • If over AF body-fat standards, obtain medical
    release from doctor
  • Must have briefing concerning safety related
    issues
  • Complete AFROTC Physical Health Screening
    Questionnaire
  • ALL ACTIONS MUST BE COMPLETE BY 30 Sep 06/5 Oct
    06 (All cadets will attend required PT sessions
    regardless of clearance)

CADET REQUIREMENTS
  • Must meet physical fitness standards--pass the
    PFT
  • Failure to meet standards or attendance
    requirements may result in disenrollment
    (contract cadets) or render you ineligible for
    POC entry (non-contract cadets)

EXCEPTIONS TO PT POLICY
  • Cadets participating in intercollegiate sports
    may be excused during the season AFTER they pass
    the PFT
  • Hardship case--cadet may be excused from
    participation for a specific reasons/specific
    time--i.e. family emergency
  • Cadets are excused from PT program during exam
    periods (mid term/finals)
  • ALL EXCEPTIONS MUST BE APPROVED BY DET 130/CC
  • FORWARD ALL EXCEPTION TO POLICY REQUESTS TO THE
    COMMANDANT OF CADETS BY 7 Sep 06

PT PROGRAM
  • Warm up
  • Muscular strength and endurance
  • 20-30 minutes of continuous aerobic activity
  • Cool-down
  • You are Required to participate twice per week.
    You are Encouraged to work out 3-5 times per week.

Safety Briefing
  • Hydration 6-8 8-ounce glasses of water or sports
    drinks per day
  • Coffee/soda do not count as the caffeine acts as
    a diuretic
  • Drink prior to aerobic activity and small amounts
    of fluid during the activity, as needed

SAFETY BRIEFING
  • Heat Stress Disorders
  • Heat Exhaustion-profuse sweating, weakness, rapid
    pulse, dizziness, nausea, headache, elevated
    temperature
  • Heat Stroke-rapid rise in body temp. Slurred
    speech, confused, abnormal shivering, nausea, and
    vomiting. Hot dry skin OR profuse sweating
  • Heat syncope-fainting after exertion
  • Hyponatremia (acute water intoxication)low
    sodium levels in the blood excessive H2O intake
    (greater than 1 1/2 quarts per hour)

  • Heat Stress Disorders (cont.)
  • Heat cramps-muscles spasms cause by exertion and
    excessive loss of salt from the body
  • Report any injuries or illness to a Cadre
    member immediately
  • All exercise sessions will be monitored by a
    cadre member/Safety Officer
