2
The protection of hair against thermal damage by
Luviquat Sensation
3
The frequent blow drying of hair produces
- Cracks at the outermost cuticle cells -
Cuticle cell de-cementation and deformation
leading to cuticle cell lifting - This
produces the appearance of dullness in hair -
Increases degree of tangling in wet and dry hair
4
Methodology
Protection of hair cuticle cells against thermal
damage by Luviquat Sensation (LS)
Protocol
  • - 25 cycles of wetting and blow drying were
    applied to
  • single hair fibers ( 82 11 µm)
  • - Each cycle consisted of 25 s immersion in a 1
    to 5
  • shampoo dilution followed by 25 s of blow
    drying
  • Shampoo 12 SLES, 3 CAPB Control No LS
  • Shampoo sample with 0.25 LS

Cuticle Cell Analysis
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) - Patterns
of light interference with a High-Scope -
Counting of cracks and de-cemented cuticles
per unit area

Conclusions
  • The deposition of Luviquat Sensation to hair
    during shampooing
  • provides smoothing and conditioning
  • It also prevents the formation of steep
    de-swelling/contraction gradients
  • across the cuticle cells during water
    evaporation by hair blow drying
  • The overall effect is a substantial reduction in
    cuticle cell cracking
  • and cuticle cell lifting by de-cementation
