Title: The ABS Project
1The ABS Project
2The ABS project
- Objective Implement Automated Beam Steering and
shaping Methods for accelerator operation - OPEN project
- Annual project planning sets targets and
milestones - Tasks and targets discussed in topical Monthly
meetings
3PS ABS recipe
- Based on the nominal optics a linear correction
Matrix A is created using the first order terms. - The errors at the available Monitors are
measured, each measurement is represented by an
error vector b. - The universal solver Micado is applied to return
the correction vector x such as the norm of the
residual vector - r A x b
- is minimum after iteration over the number of
correctors.

- Linac-PSB
- PSB-PS
- PSB four rings
- Bump42
- PSB Orbit
6Why do we put such an effort on the database?
- Experience with the test programs has shown that
the weakest point is the generation of Matrices ! - Generic ABS program is DATADRIVEN
- The data must be MAINTAINABLE
7Database for ABS application program
- Database must handle
- PPM
- Multi function magnets
- Common elements for several PSB rings
- Database objectives
- Maintainable
- Avoid duplication of data
- Easy access to other databases
- PS control database
- Survey database
- Other CERN optics databases
- Evolution potential
- General machine documentation
- Interconnection with application programs
- Portable
8What does ABS need from database
- Complete listing of all Magnetic elements and
Monitors belonging to each existing type of
machine operation - Nominal optics
- Nominal position along the beam-line
- Magnetic length
- Edge-up and Edge down
- Calibration points
9Data entry form
10Data interrogation via ACCIS WEB browser
- Click and you see it!
- AND
- WEB pages are dynamically created from the
database using the ORACLE WebServer
11Generic application program
- Data-driven
- Portable
- Common look for the different machines and
transfer lines, and for the different types of
corrections for which it applies - Interface to different instrumentation devices
- For calculation s, the program uses the
Mathematica package BeamOptics.
