Title: Triangle congruence: SAS

1
Triangle congruence SAS
  • Sides and angles of polygons have special
    relationships.
  • The angle formed by 2 adjacent sides of a polygon
    is called an Included angle.
  • The common side of 2 consecutive angles of a
polygon is called an included side

2
SAS triangle congruence postulate
  • If 2 sides and the included angle of 1 triangle
are congruent to 2 sides and the included angle
of another triangle, then the triangle are
    congruent by side-angle-side congruence

3
  • In the SAS Postulate, the included angle is the
angle formed by the 2 congruent sides. The A is
between the 2 S's, showing that the angle is
    between the 2 sides.

4
  • Is the pair of triangles congruent by SAS
    postulate?

5
  • The 2 triangles are not congruent because the
angle in the 2nd triangle was not the included
    angle

6
  • Find the value of x that makes the triangles
    congruent

7
  • LAB 5- Congruent triangles
  • 1. sketch a triangle and label it ABC
  • 2.Construct DE congruent to AB
  • 3.ConstructltDEF congruent to ltABC
  • 4.Place F on ray EF so that Ef is congruent to BC
  • 5.Connect F and D

8
  • You constructed DE congruent to AB
  • You constructed ltDEF congruent to ltABC
  • You constructed EF congruent to BC
  • By the SAS postulate, triangle DEF is congruent
    to triangle ABC
