 Quick Start Guide to

PC System Configuration
  • Minimum configuration for Reel-Check
  • Operating system Windows XP or Vista, any
    version.
  • For SD operation dual core CPU Intel 2.0 GHz
    CoreDuo 2, Xeon-D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 For
    HD, a Quad is needed
  • System memory (RAM) 1024MB (1Gb) or more
  • At least 200MB Free hard-disk space
  • 3D graphics card 3D video card with dedicated
    128Mb minimum -
    NOT shared or turbo memory which is too poor in
    performance
  • 1024x768, 32-bit true colour screen LCD or CRT
  • Apple MAC not directly but Parallels or
    Bootcamp etc. possible

Setup Results folder
Reel-Check automatically deposits a report for
each media file or item tested in the results
folder
The Results folder is most important . Ideally on
a local hard disk, it could be a network place,
public or private

Setup watch folder
A Watch folder allows automatic scheduling of a
media files copied there by any user. This
should be on a local hard disk
The use of the watch folder is optional

Setup pending and done folders
Pending and Done folders are set automatically by
the installer. These may be changed by the user.
These should also be on the same local hard
drive for speed
The pending and done folders work in concert with
the watch folder when used.

  • Drag-drop from any Window file explorer window
    into an open schedule on the main Reel-Check
    screen
  • Externally copy media files to be scheduled into
    the Watch folder
  • Use the main command button Select File and pick
    one file to be added to the schedule
  • Use the main command button Find File and select
    one or as many as desired to be scheduled
  • Using the library database feature of Reel-Check,
    click the Schedule button having selected a
    library indexed media file see details of the
    library later

Library feature - integration
Reel-Checks library is a management tool which
operates integrates with the test measurement
functions of the scheduler. Its use is optional.
  • Files listed by the library, can be scheduled to
    Reel-Check test by the Schedule command button
  • Once a file is entered into the library, a unique
    serial number is generated for that file by
    Reel-Check.
  • The serial number is used to link the Result file
    name back to the file source via the library
    entry as the test tracked.
  • The library generated maintained by Reel-Check
    can be used externally via Microsoft Access,
    Excel and SQL as well as other database programs .

Library feature - general
Reel-Checks library is a management tool which
operates separately from the test functions of
the scheduler.
  • The library comprises a database externally
    accessible MS Excel or Access
  • Users can add entries for all media files
    accessible on a system
  • Catalogues by specific projects, departments or
    content type.
  • The library stores records of the files, their
    names, attributes, locations and other useful
    data, but not the files themselves.
  • Media files can be catalogued by various
    attributes making retrieval very easy.

Reel-Checks library is a management tool from
which media file may be played out rather than
going into the scheduler facilities.
  • The Hide Scheduler button reveals the playout
    options
  • Reel-Check test can be done manually by direct
    button
  • Vidscope interactive waveform and display can be
    initiated.
  • Playout by MS Windows Media Player can be
    initiated
  • Playout by Apple Quicktime Player can be
    initiated
  • There are 4 user assignable buttons to direct
    media files from the library to playout or
    whatever in any external applications set-up by
    the user..

Schedules - general
Reel-Check schedule diversity adding media files

  • A schedule comprises of a database file
    anyname.sdb
  • The Playlist of a schedule can have a many media
    files or sources or as as you like or just
    one.
  • The schedule database has both a playlist and a
    details section which contains all the
    particulars and general set-ups for the playlist
    batch .
  • A completed schedule can be saved anywhere on
    your system as a permanent record of what was
    done, from where and what for, together pass/fail
    results.

  • A schedule can also be created externally from
    the new_schedule.mdb template using Microsoft
    Access or another Database program.
  • Virtually unlimited schedules can be retained on
    your system or deleted when they are no longer
    relevant.
  • Reel-Check allows editing of an existing schedule
    which can be repeatedly re-used.
  • Externally created or edited schedules or old
    saved schedules can be loaded into Reel-Check
    with the Load command button.
  • A new or edited schedule can be saved to a new
    name using the Save As command button.

Starting a new schedule
Filling in the Details can be skipped for casual
use!
Clicking New List creates from the schedule a new
blank schedule. Then a new Details form pops
up for completion

Adding a media file to the schedule by Select
Clicking the main command button Select File
invokes an explorer type window
Clicking on Open adds the selected name and
location to the current schedule after the
current playlist position.

drops down the find media files menu
Select a file by left clicking on the search
results list or hold down the Ctrl key to pick a
group. This facility can be used either for
schedule or library entry

Scheduled Live Sources
Reel-Check can accept live sources via capture
card or firewire
  • Depending the type of capture card available on
    the PC system, the source may HD or SD, analogue
    or SDI.
  • Compressed formats and IP feeds are subject to
    Codec availability.
  • Adding live sources to a schedule is done by
    first previewing with Select Live Src and then
    the Add Live Src Schedule command buttons.
  • Live sources are scheduled by a time slot. This
    is setup after the Add Live Src Schedule pops
    up the Set Time menu.
