What can photos tell us about Brightons human
features?
Developed knowledge and understanding of coastal
locality using images and maps of Brighton.
Applied to Hunstanton which was the main
locality being studied. Using a different place
initially meant that outcomes from main study
were enhanced and pupils enquiry became more
independent.
The interactive whiteboard was used to pool and
discuss ideas and for whole class teaching. Many
activities transferred from the IWB to
independent work.
Recording annotations on the IWB supported the
teachers assessment of pupil knowledge and
understanding. Saving and returning to work on
the IWB helped pupils to recall and build on
previous learning.
Cross-curricular link with Literacy. Digital
images taken during visit to Hunstanton. Previous
learning informed their choice of images. Using
images supported the structure and content of the
leaflet that was subsequently written.
Collaboration took the form of using the same
resource for different year groups,
differentiating through the complexity of tasks,
effective questioning and use of vocabulary.
The teacher considers that pupils achievement
and motivation is greater due to the use and
annotation of colour photographs on a large
scale.
