Title: Some, any
1Some, any
2When do we use some and any?
3We can use some and any with both countable and
uncountable nouns to talk about quantity. We use
some when we are not sure about the quantity,
when the exact quantity is not important
or when we do not want to say the exact quantity.
Put some olives on the pizza. There is some bread
on the table.
4We use any in questions to ask about the
quantity. We also use it in
negative statements to say there is nothing.
Are there any tomatoes in the salad? Yes, there
are some tomatoes in the salad.
Is there any milk in the fridge? Yes, there is
some milk in the fridge.
How do you give a positive answer to these
questions?
There arent any onions. There isnt any water.
