Special initiatives

  • I. A short-term, need based training programme
    namely Training Programme in Dogra Cuisines of
    JK State has been launched by the Regional
    Centre, Jammu on local initiative. The study
    material was released by the Director, RSD in the
    one-day Coordinators/Programme Incharges
    meeting held on 15th November, 2008 at General
    Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
  • II. There was felt a need to develop training
    programmes for the following crafts, which are in
    pipeline
  • Religious tourism guides
  • Basholi paintings
  • Block printing of Samba
  • III. Tie-up with NCLM
  • A proposal for setting up of IGNOU Learner
    Centres in collaboration with the network of
    National Computer Literacy Mission (NCLM)
    operating in several states in Northern Indian
    has been submitted to the RSD Headquarters for
    which the response is awaited. As soon as we get
    a go ahead from the Headquarters, we would be
    having a formal open MOU with NCLM for setting up
    of IGNOU Learner Centres in all the 86 blocks of
    the Jammu region in phases which would be highly
    beneficial for local populace of the Jammu Region
    in terms of education.
  • IV. Tie-up with CNRI
  • Six different villages/towns were identified for
    setting up of the IGNOU knowledge Centres in the
    first instance which covered four districts of
    the Jammu region in the first place. IGNOU
    programmes like BPP, CLP, CIC, CFN, CTS, CBS, CRD
    were identified for activation in these centres.

Measures in Students Support Services

  • Created front office desk where students are
    heard during full office working hours from
    Monday to Saturday. The students collect
    prospectus, submit forms, get assistance in
    filling up forms, submit queries and get
    information from this desk.
  • Conducted induction meetings in various LSCs for
    our new students.
  • Organized Students grievances redressal week
    twice in 2008 Academic Session.

  • One day discipline based Orientation Programme
    for the Academic Counsellors and Programme
    Incharges of DNA Programme was held on 29th
    March, 2008 29th March, 2008 at Jammu in
    collaboration with School of Health Sciences.
    Prof. Bimla Kapoor and Ms. Laxmi were the
    resource persons for the said programme.
  • One day Orientation Programme for the Academic
    Counsellors of PGDMCH Programme was organized in
    IGNOU Programme Study Centre 1245-P, Govt.
    Medical College on 5th April, 2008. Dr. T.K.
    Jena, from the school of Health Sciences, IGNOU,
    New Delhi was the resource person.
  • One-day Orientation Programme for the
    Coordinators/PICs and Academic Counselors of the
    Learner Support Centres established from 01/01/07
    to 31/12/07 at Deptt. Of Environment Sciences,
    University of Jammu on 2nd of May, 2008. Prof. B
    A Khan, Honble Pro-Vice Chancellor IGNOU was the
    Chairman of the day. Prof. C B Sharma, School of
    Education, Prof. Basanthi Pradhan, STRIDE, Dr. A
    S Guha, RSD IGNOU Headquarters, were the resource
    persons.
  • One-Day Orientation Programme of Academic
    Counsellors of MA Education was held on 03rd
    December, 2008 in the Seminar Hall, University of
    Jammu. Prof. M.L. Koul was the resource person
    from the School of Education, IGNOU, New Delhi.
  • Organised training programme on maintenance of
    accounts by the learner centres

1. Honble Vice Chancellor has been kind enough
to permit us to hire accommodation for our
Regional Centre office. The process has been
completed and we have started most of our
operations from new accommodation. 2. The
sanction for Local recruitment of Supporting
Staff has been given by HQ. Recruitment
tests were conducted for various posts and now
one DEO has been appointed through local
recruitment process. 3. KIOSK has been received
for our Regional Centre for Students Support
Services which is yet to made operational.

1. Shortage of Staff No regular ARD is posted
with RC. 2. Frequent Power failure Requirement
of Heavy Duty Generators /UPSs 3. Lack of
computer infrastructure 4. Furniture equipment
not provided to Learner Centres, as promised in
our MOU 5. Audio/Video material and equipment
related to that not provided to RC Jammu.
