The Baby Boomer Generation
  • It is estimated that there are approximately 78
    million baby boomers (born 1946 1964) in the
    United States at the present time.
  • In 2005 there were 813,849 baby boomers on Long
    Island or 29.0 of the population.

  • Project 2020-A Joint Proposal of NASUA and n4a
  • Provision of resources to implement
    consumer-centered and cost-effective long-term
    care strategies authorized in the 2006
    reauthorization of the Older Americans Act
    through a three-pronged approach.

New Programs Based on Prevention
  • Six Weeks to a Healthier You
  • Sessions cover subjects including dealing with
    difficult emotions healthy food choices
    maintaining and improving strength and
    flexibility effective communication with family,
    friends and physicians and evaluating new health
    treatments.

  • Safe and Sound Fall Prevention and Home Safety
  • Assessment by physical therapists at four
    stations Posture Screen, Functional Reach Test,
    Standing Balance on Foam Pad, and Timed Up and
    Go.  At the completion of the test there is an
    exit interview.  Older persons at high risk of
    falling are encouraged to bring the outcome of
    the assessment on their Balance Score Sheet, to
    their physician, who may then take the necessary
    actions to mediate the problem.
