What is it?
A set of tools for achieving excellence in
wellbeing at work
8
Why?
  • The positive impact on learning and teaching
  • Improved staff attendance
  • Improved communication and relationships
  • Better retention and recruitment of motivated
    staff
  • Confidence in meeting legal responsibilities

9
Creating the Conditions for Ambitious Excellent
Schools
  • 2005 Research Report from Glasgow University
  • Joint Pilot Project Fife, Renfrewshire, TSS and
    Scottish Executive
  • Outcomes evaluated in 2007

10
Project Outcomes
  • The project has raised the profile of staff
well-being and provided the opportunity to
identify key strengths and priorities for
development. In most cases this would not have
    happened without the pilot project.

11
Project Outcomes
  • Strategic leadership from the local authority was
essential to give the appropriate status to staff
    well-being and the project.

12
Project Outcomes
  • The project showed that an approach such as
Creating the Conditions can have a positive
impact on schools, staff well-being and classroom
    effectiveness.

13
Dissemination
  • Following the successful outcome of the Creating
the Conditions pilot project in Fife and
Renfrewshire, Teacher Support Scotland and Fife
Council Education Service agreed that what was
learned from the project should be shared with
    authorities and schools throughout Scotland.

14
Dissemination
  • We believe that the best way to capitalise on the
outcomes from the project is to produce a guide
    to effective practice, with appropriate
resources, advice and guidance made available to
    authorities and schools.

15
Dissemination
  • The guide will be on-line and will include
  • An illustrated guide to effective practice in
    relation to organisational and individual
    wellbeing in schools
  • A framework strategy (template) for improving
staff health and wellbeing in schools
  • A self-assessment tool for schools

16
  • Links to major drivers
