Title: Modeling PredatorPrey Dynamics

1
Modeling Predator-Prey Dynamics
the Canadian lynx and snowshoe hare
  • For simplicity sake simple, the following
assumptions that would be unrealistic in most of
    these predator-prey situations are made.
  • the predator species is totally dependent on a
single prey species as its only food supply,
  • the prey species has an unlimited food supply
  • there is no threat to the prey other than the
    specific predator.

Predator-Prey Model
  • Prey population (R)
  • In absence of predators, Rabbits grow at a rate
    proportional to the population (a)
  • Rabbits and Lynx encounter at a rate proportional
to population of each species, a fraction (b) of
the encounters that lead to Rabbits death
  • Predator population (L)
  • In absence of prey, Lynx population dies at a
rate (c) proportional to the population
  • Only a fraction (e) of rabbits consumed results
in net growth of Lynx population
