MODVAR (What we have learned)

• 3 regional forcast centers (Oslo, Bergen, Tromsø)
  of equal status
• Weather situation frequently discussed around the
  clock between regions
• Common IT systems and production tools for
  forecasters developed
• One week training course arranged twice a year
  constitute an important meeting place for
  forecasters from different regions, developers
  and researchers
• Digital weather analysis common for all three
  regions.

• Close contact between operational forecasters and
  developers /researchers in development phase has
  been mandatory
• Each development project organized in two
  separate parts with close connections
• IM (scientific methods and operational
  requirements)

  operational implementation of new technical
  systems
• User group established as link between
  application and development.

  database regularily updated provides the best
  basis for deliveries of services to the public
• Observations, Gridded deterministic and
  probabilistic forecasts, text and graphics
• Both automatic and manually interacted forecast
  products
• Verification integrated in the forecast
  production chain.

  demonstraton sites for data and products from
  met.no official duty
• The future role of the forecaster is a key issue
  in PROFF.
