- 1. Talk to child everyday
- 2. Check your childs homework,
planner/folder everyday. - 3. Read to or with child everyday
- 4. Provide a place for your child to do homework
- 5. Check book bag daily
- 6. Be sure your child has a good breakfast each
day.
- 7. Read Menugram every week
- 8. Attend school functions if available.
- 9. Be sure your child arrives on time.
- 10. Be sure you child goes to bed at an
appropriate time. - 11. Limit TV watching.
- 12. Reinforce proper school behaviors.
18Helping Your Child Succeed!
- 1. Read aloud to your child. Research has proven
that this is the most important thing a parent
can do to ensure a childs reading progress. - 2. Obtain a library card for your child and check
out a book. - 3. Subscribe to child-oriented magazines. Read
them together. - 4. Create flashcards for your childs particular
needs-alphabet recognition, vocabulary words,
numbers etc. You can practice them in the care,
bathtub, at dinner or any other time.
- 5. Have your child help you follow a recipe and
create a meal or snack. Your child loves spending
time with you, and they can be very useful for a
project like this. Its also a lot of fun! - 6. Help your child organize homework. Remind them
to write their name and reread the directions for
them. They should take it from there. - 7. Celebrate your childs discoveries and let the
child see your joy as you learn together!
