Your mission statement
  • The mission of the California FASD Task Force is
to advance the effective prevention and treatment
of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD).
The task force is an independent, public-private
partnership of parents and professionals from
many disciplines committed to improving the lives
of Californians affected by FASD and eliminating
    alcohol use during pregnancy. Through
innovation, education, advocacy and research, the
task force provides leadership in mobilizing
    broad-based support and sustainable resources
statewide to lessen the lifelong physical,
psychological, emotional and economic burden of
this preventable public health problem on
    individuals, families and communities.

4
Your five-year goals (JAN 2006-SEPT 2010)
  • Improve the quality and accessibility of current,
    accurate state and local data.
  • Improve the quality, accessibility and continuity
of diagnostic and lifelong treatment and referral
services for individuals with fetal alcohol
    spectrum disorders.
  • Increase public awareness of fetal alcohol
    spectrum disorders and their prevention.

Your five-year goals (continued)

    during pregnancy.
  • Build and sustain an effective statewide task
    force.
  • Establish a sustainable statewide FASD Registry.
  • Establish and support a public policy agenda.

JAN-SEPT 2006
  • Challenge Reach consensus on a nine-month
action plan for all seven goals
  • Small groups will do this for one or two goals
  • Decide which strategies to implement first (there
are four to seven strategies per goal)
  • For those strategies, choose ACTIVITIES
Specific action steps the task force will take to
implement strategies designed to achieve one or
    more goals
  • For each activity, specify an activity lead,
    activity partners and resources needed

7
Four small groups by goals

  • Group B Goals 2 (services)
    7 (policy)
  • Group C Goals 3 (awareness)
    4 (pregnancy)
  • Group D Goal 5 (task force)

8
How to complete the worksheet (one action plan
per goal)
  • Select first goal to address suggest a champion
  • Reach consensus on strategies to implement first
    write code (e.g., 1C) in 1st column
  • Brainstorm activities to implement each strategy
    between January and September 2006
  • Reach consensus on the most IMPORTANT and
FEASIBLE activities to implement for each
strategy record them in 2nd column
  • Recommend an organization/individual willing and
able to lead the activity (3rd column)
  • Recommend partners to collaborate (4th column)
  • Note resources needed to implement (5th column)

9
Tips for your action plan

    activities too soon
  • Include some activities that can have visible
    impact by next September
  • Make sure that goal champions and activity leads
    are willing and able
  • Disseminate your draft to all stakeholders for
    their review and comment

    implementation (form follows function!)
