BACKGROUND

• Aim of the Department
• To develop and promote a national system of
  co-operative governance and to support the
  development of provincial and local government
• Mandate of the Branch
• To promote integrated governance for sustainable
  development and focus specifically on
  strengthening the relationship between the three
  spheres of government through integrated systems
  of planning and delivery.

• Promote integrated development planning and local

• Finalise guidelines on IDP as a
  intergovernmental planning instrument

• Fully operationalise the IDP Nerve Centre

• 2003 critical year to finalize key policy
  initiatives which will stabilize and strengthen
  out system of intergovernmental relations
• Key challenges regarding accelerating
  implementation of delivery programmes and
  providing direct support to provinces and
  municipalities
