  • Many things that we use today were invented
  • by Germans such as, aspirin, the printing
  • press, and gummy bears.
  • Nazi Germany started World War II by
  • invading Poland in 1939.

Education
Going to School in Germany
  • German children start school at the age of 6.
  • Elementary school consists of grades 1-4.
  • After 4th grade students are placed into a
    secondary school based
  • on their performance.
  • German students only attend school in the
    mornings.
  • There is no lunch provided, a lot more homework
    given, and very
  • few extra curricular activities.
  • School is for learning only!

Major Differences in Germany America
  • Germans donate more money annually to
  • charitable organizations then Americans do.
  • By law everyone in Germany has at least 4 weeks
  • of paid vacation time, whereas many people in the
  • U.S. do not get any paid vacation.
  • Recycling is also mandated by law in Germany
  • however, it is not in America.
  • Obviously there is a difference in language as
  • well. The prominent language spoken in America
  • is English, the German language is spoken in
  • Germany.

  • Germany has no state church.
  • The number of believers of any religious
  • group is smaller today in Germany than
  • ever before, many Germans do not belong
  • to a church today.
  • Christianity is the largest affiliated religion
  • in Germany.

Class Activity
Play Topfschlagen (Hit the Pot)
  • Teacher will randomly choose a student to be
    it.
  • Whomever is it has to close their eyes while a
    prize is placed
  • under a pot and hid anywhere in the room.
  • Then, whoever is it must crawl around while
    banging a
  • cooking spoon on the floor looking for the hidden
    pot and
  • prize.
  • When the pot is found someone else will be chosen
    to be it
  • and the process will be repeated.
