Problem Definition

• There are many discovery tools in the market, but
  these tools are not providing the following
  functionality
• Heterogeneous VLAN Topology Discovery
• Different views of network
• Subnet view
• VLAN view
• Improve the User Interface and interactions.
• Graphical view of entire network
• Administrator customization options for various
  nodes.
• easy and fast update of the network topology
  changes.

Goal

• To develop such system which provides these
  functionality in the topology discovery tools.
  And finally the administrator in the POSTECH will
  uses this tool.
• Write a paper.

Purpose

• VLAN and VPN are not handled by many of the
  commercial tools.
• Very less research are done on heterogeneous
  management of these technologies.
• If we provide the customization options, then it
  becomes easy for administrator or user to view
  the network, and do the capacity management.
• After the completion of the tool, we hope that
  the POSTECH network administrator will use it.

Method

• Study VLAN, and the MIB information available for
  VLAN from different vendors.
• Find out some common solutions to show VLAN in
  the map.

• 3. Find a free tool for showing Graphical view
  of network, some API or utilities.
• 4. For customization, use Database to store and
  retrieve the information of the customized nodes.
