• NOVOSIBIRSK ZOO is one of the largest zoos in
  Russia. The area is 53 hectares. In 1933 the
  Novosibirsk regional children's technical and
  agricultural station was organized . A zoological
  garden reminding a school club was opened. His
  scientific chief was a well known zoologist and
  writer D.Zverev. In 1937 the former garden
  "Algambra" was adapted, the collection of
  animals and birds was considerably filled up. In
  1937 there were 50 kinds of birds and 35 kinds of
  mammals.1mln people visit our zoo every year.
  
• There are 11000 species ,478 kinds of animals.

• Rostislav Shilo .The director of Novosibirsk
  zoo.He was born in October 23, 1940 in the town
  of Iman of Primorye . He finished the
  Novosibirsk agricultural higher school in 1975.
  The valid member of the
  International European association of zoos and
  aquariums, Euroasian association of zoos and
  aquariums, International union of the directors
  of zoos of the world. In
  1961-1962 he is a veterinary assistant of a
  Novosibirsk zoo
  In1962 he is a director of a zoological
  exhibition
  In1966 he is an animal geneticist,
  Since1966 to 1969 he is a manager of a
  section of mammals of Novosibirsk zoo Since
  1969 he is a director of a Novosibirsk zoo.
  
  The author of 50 scientific works on
  problems of rare kinds of wild animals.
• He has many important state awards.

• During the Great Patriotic War in 1942 many
  animals were evacuated from the circuses and
  mobile zoos of the USSR.
  In the city there was a zoological centre of the
  state circus union. Despite of the difficult
  conditions this centre won the large
  popularity. After the war
  this centre was handed to Novosibirsk.

• In 1957 the first exotic kind of parrots , boas
  appeared. It was impossible to keep large
  animals because of the absence of the large
  comfortable winter pavilions and cold climate of
  Western Siberia . The
  zoo began specializing in local kinds of
  animalscats,martens etc.

• On Zverevs initiative ,in August 29, 1947 the
  first in Siberia zoological park was opened.
  
  For a long time it has been a unique zoo in
  Siberia.
  The collection of animals
  consisted of 34 kinds of mammals and 20 kinds of
  birds. The living conditions for animals of
  the zoo were unsatisfactory the rooms were
  cold, had poor illumination.
  In 1956 the Novosibirsk
  zoo demonstrated 82 kinds of animals.

• In 1980s the zoo moved in a spacious place in
  Zayeltsovskiy park.

• Jointly with the Institute of order and ecology
  of animals SO RAN the zoo organized the nursery
  of rare kinds of animals at a biostation in
  Karasuk where the rare kinds
  of animals,their reproduction are studied.

• The collective of the zoo takes part in 45
  international programs on preservation of rare
  and disappearing kinds of animals. Some rare
  kinds of animals had their offsprings in the zoo
  for the first time in the world
  the river otter, Asian
  falcipennis falcipennis(lat.), vormella
  peregusna(lat.), Kamchatka snow ram,the
  Putoranskiy ram.

• In Novosibirsk zoo there is one of the best
  worlds collection of rare representatives of
  cats and martens. Novosibirsk zoo keeps such rare
  animals as argali (the Altai moutainous ram) and
  the putoranskiy ram.
