• Catch your audiences attention.
• State your thesis.

Imagine.

• One way of writing an effective introduction is
  describing the world if your thesis did or did
  not happen. Look at the following example from a
  recent paper of mine.

• Its 930 and only half the people who should
  be at work are there. Those working glare at
  each menacingly as they rudely begin their days
  work. What could have made this day better? One
  word coffee. The health benefits of coffee
  drinking are numerous and the social benefits are
  tremendous. For this reason, I propose that all
  individuals be required to consume a cup of
  quality coffee each morning.

• Write three sentences describing a world in which
  people did or did not follow your advice.
• 2) The last sentence should be a clear, simple
  statement of your thesis.

• Identifies possible implications for the future.

• Whether you consider the important research that
  shows the health benefits of drinking coffee or
  whether you simply acknowledge the joy of a cup
  of joe with a friend, there is little doubt that
  a required cup of coffee each morning would make
  a big difference in work performance and human
  relations in general. The world with coffee is
  beautiful lets spread the beauty.
