to provide education - Uneasy relationship between federal, state, and
local education agencies

- State vs. District control, prescribed vs.
flexible systems - Similarity of schools, vast differences in
schools - Economically driven (who has the money, state or
district? - Socially driven (some states have a historical
context of local control, others have always had
strong state influence) - Contextually driven (California has its own set
of issues which differ from New York, each system
is unique)

lessons from the world into all classrooms in the
United States?

-- real, not just superficial! - Learn from our friends and colleagues in other

- Building relationships among officials, schools,
and teachers - Listen to what they have to say and improve the
system around their advice!
