  • Promote and Advocate for the Accessibility,
    Reliability and Affordability of transportation
    alternatives for individuals with disabilities

  • Identify strategies to eliminate barriers/change
    policy practices
  • Facilitate the creation and coordination of
    reliable transportation services for elderly
    individuals/individuals with disabilities
  • Identify local solutions, and replicate these
    solutions as specific recommendations for
    statewide action
  • Frame current issues that face elderly
    individuals/individuals with disabilities with
    regard to transportation in a context that the
    full council can adopt as policy proposals for
    action items and/or demonstration projects

  • Recommendation Encourage coordination in
    administering the federal 5310 program which
    provides buses to not-for-profit agencies
  • Accomplishment
  • 2008 application requires participation in a
    locally developed coordinated plan
  • Provides Metropolitan Planning Organizations
    (MPOs) additional evaluation points to score
    those projects where coordination benefits exists

  • NYSDOT, with the support of agency partners, was
    successful in receiving funding support from UWR
    for outreach efforts for Round II

  • NYS has participated with the federal government
    through various state/federal funding mechanisms

  • MISCC Transportation Workgroup has aggressive
    meeting schedule, to meet tri-weekly
  • Regular meetings will progress discussion/address
    issues with goal of issuing a status report with
    recommendations to the full MISCC by the end of
    the 2008 calendar year
  • Quarterly update report at next full MISCC
    meeting in April
