Longitude and Latitude - Definition

• Latitude The distance north or south of the
  Equator
• Longitude The distance east or west of the
  Prime Meridian
• Latitude and longitude intersect, forming a grid
  that covers the East and helps us to locate
  points on it.

Latitude

• Equator line of 0 degrees latitude, the
  starting point. The North Pole is 90 degrees
  north, South Pole is 90 degrees south.
• The latitude of every point in between is a
  degree, north or south, from 9 to 90 degrees.
• 1 degree is 69 miles
• Latitude circles are also called parallels of
  latitude. They get smaller the farther they are
  from the Equator.

Longitude

  know as meridians.

  is 0 degrees longitude.
• Longitude is measured in degrees, east or west of
  the Prime Meridian.

  longitude up to 180 degrees and the other half is
  degrees or west longitude up to 180 degrees.

  longitude are divided into 60 minutes, symbolized
