General Introduction to the Project

Context

• The project is an independent component of the
  Development and Climate Network.
• Development, energy and climate change is a
  Danida funded UNEP project. The project will
  maybe be expanded with contributions from South
  Korea and Japan.
• Other network activities include international
  dialogues and agricultural case studies in China
  and Senegal by Jan Verhagen.
• Saleemul Huq has suggested KH to take over the
  coordination of the network activities (maybe one
  annual meeting, and COP side events).

• There is a long way from traditional energy

Thematic Areas

• Thematic area 1 GHG stabilisation scenarios,
  relationships to the development agenda, future
  energy growth patterns, and technological change.
• Thematic area 2 Assessment of policy instruments
  in the context of current market structures,
  institutional capabilities, transaction costs,
  and risks.
• Thematic area 3 Climate change impacts,
  vulnerability and adaptation in the energy sector
  with a special emphasis on adaptation-mitigation
  linkages.

Organisation of the Work

• URC and all country teams work together on
  thematic areas.
