Title: Ecoserve, Cluster 3

1
Ecoserve, Cluster 3
  • Concrete production in Slovenia
  • overview
  • Jana elih
  • (presented by Vilma Ducman)
  • National Building and Civil Engineering
    Institute, Dimiceva 12, Ljubljana, Slovenia
  • 2nd workshop, Madrid, April 15, 2005

2
Concrete for indoor use
  • Environmental exposure
  • X0 (no exposure)
  • XC1 (dry or permanently wet environment)
  • Typically pumped concrete (consistency class
    S3/S4)
  • cement type predominantly used CEM II

3
  • Accounting for blended cement composition
  • w/c calculated in the same way for CEM I and CEM
    II
  • activity factors are not used

4
Waste materials in concrete production
  • Cement substitution
  • limestone powder / dust (from quarries -
    limestone aggregate production)
  • fly ash (approx. 22500 tons in 2003)
  • Aggregate substitution
  • CD waste - concrete rubble
  • steel slag
  • Water substitution
  • waste water form concrete plants

5
Concrete cost distribution
  • Production costs for concrete
  • cement 50 - 60
  • aggregate 20
  • fine coarse aggregate cost 1,14
  • fine aggregate cement cost 0,12

6
Self compacting concrete
  • in testing / preliminary use stage only
  • combination of fillers (limstone dust) and
    additives
  • MAIN USE
  • self levelling floor screeds
  • structural concrete with large percentage of
    (fine) reinforcement

7
Crni kal - highway bridge
Use of SCC in column base

9
Product environmental declaration for concrete
  • No product environmental declarations are used so
    far in construction in Slovenia.
  • Competition is currently based on price only.
  • Considering that
  • a large proportion of general contractors holds
    ISO 9001 certificate, and that
  • the number of companies holding ISO 14000
    certificate is growing,
  • it can be anticipated that environmental
declarations will become more used in practice
