Concept of SSYCs
  • SSYCs is based on peer education model consisting
of a series of modules led by trained peer
mentors - At this initial stage the clubs will be
    led by community advocates
  • and reinforced by social peers of lay religious
leaders who advocate using religion to support
    delay marriage.

through social support, life skills training,
    savings mobilization, income generation, and
    conditional cash transfers.

    discussions interpersonal communications and
    community dialogues.

    prevention, reproductive health, hygiene, and
life-skills in Islamiya school curricula and
    after-school activities.

Criteria for selection of members

out-of-school adolescents will be encouraged to
be in school thus delaying marriage

    the clubs

15
Selection of safe spaces
  • A safe space is a venue that the society
  • would regard as appropriate for the meeting of
  • the youth clubs.
  • An appropriate venue varies from one
  • community to the other. The most appropriate
  • spaces identified by CAs are
  • A religious leaders house

  • Other venues considered to be safe by the
    community

  • Abstinence and Be Faithful issues. The
  • materials on these issues have been packaged
  • in the Advocacy Training Manual which is
  • currently being used by the community
  • advocates. The manual has been adapted to
  • the curriculum for the SSYCs.
  • Issues on early marriage is added to this
  • manual.

with targeted beneficiaries - young girls in per-
during- and post-marriage The AB activity is
based on the Safe Space Youth Clubs (SSYC)
methodology developed in 07. SSYCs will be
established in communities where each of the 187
CAs are based. Each CA will set-up at least 1
    SSYCs by 08.

19
AB intervention
  • A total of 187 SSYCs will be established in 08.
Each SSYC consists of up to 20 members. A total
of 3740 participants will benefit from these
SSYCs. Each quarter, the SSYC participants will
    undergo the AB intervention package
