The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority

• Established by UK Government April 2005
• Responsible for the UK civil public sector
  nuclear legacy
• Based in West Cumbria
• Four regional offices covering 20 sites across
  the UK
• Over 2Bn per annum budgeted spend
• In excess of 1Bn income per year
• Total programme currently 63Bn over circa
  120 years
• Around 20,000 people

Scope

• 20 diverse sites located around the UK. Many
  facilities date back to 1940s but some modern
  commercial plants
• Not just decommissioning clean-up. Activities
  include RD, Construction, Reprocessing, Waste
  Management Storage, Fuel Manufacture,
  Electricity Generation and Transport.

  environment.
• Promote competition in the decommissioning and
  clean up market.
• Carrying out Research Development related to
  decommissioning.
• Ensure maintenance development of
  decommissioning skills.
• Promote good practice and secure value for money.
• Support the social and economic life of
  communities around sites.
