Upgrade

• Facts -
• Re-banding cost of 7.1M will be paid by NEXTEL.
• Orange County needs to re-band the system by Dec,
  2009 in order to comply with FCC mandate. Sept
  15th date is self imposed.
• Orange County Motorola Legacy SmartNet System is
  obsolete this means that the system will have
  to be upgraded by 2012. No longer supported by
  Motorola
• All Motorola Legacy SmartNet Systems will be
  obsolete and all other Surrounding communities
  around Orange County will have to upgrade P25
  Technology Open protocol

• Facts continue-
• Interoperability between P25 Systems whether a
  Motorola System or a Tyco Electronics System will
  be achieved exactly the same way.
• Interoperability amongst a P25 System (Motorola
  or Tyco Electronics) and a Legacy Smartnet System
  will be achieved exactly the same.
• Staff has acknowledge there are Two Major
  Providers why then does the County need to Sole
  Source a project that could exceed 60M.
