2Wellogix
- Wellogix is a software company that develops and
supports business process software designed to
streamline and improve the planning and purchase
to pay processes - Wellogix patented core product, Complex Services
Management (CSMTM) Suite is hosted remotely and
available on-demand - Wellogix has partnered separately with SAP and
Microsoft to develop and market joint industry
solutions for complex services in oil and gas

4What we were trying to do
- Make a single, secure b-2-b connection between
Baker Hughes (BHI) and Wellogix to exchange
business documents with Marathon (MOC) and Forest
(FOC) - Leverage the existing BHI integration and the OFS
Portal Competency Center and relationship with
GXS - Provide end-to-end business messages to allow
communication of invoice status and to enable
management of Invoice error and disputes by
exception - Do it quickly, do it cost effectively

6PIDX TRP Strategy a reprise
- PIDXs vision is to achieve petroleum industry
and enterprise-wide integration of business
processes through seamless electronic business
communication. Fundamental parts of a TRP best
practice are - The ability to reach all trading partners large
and small, buyers and sellers - A low total cost of ownership
- General purpose and not bound to certain
industries or payload
Kevin Harper, OFS Portal, 2005 PIDX Fall Meeting
7Wellogix Integration Strategy
- Wellogix was relatively late to the application
of integration standards game - First connections were point-to-point,
non-standard web services. Not a scalable
solution - Wellogix made the decision to adopt PIDX
standards and conducted review TRP options - Our goals were
- Quick, low cost connection that would work across
a relatively complex, multi-partner landscape and
be available to a wide range of trading partners - Standard connection that could yield learning
curve performance improvement and predictable
integrations
8Wellogix Application of Standards
- TRP
- AS/2 was selected as single choice of TRP
- Implementation skills are broadly held in the
community available within Wellogix - Software is low cost and implementation
configuration straightforward - Connections are inter-operable and integrations
promised to be relatively short and predictable - Schema
- PIDX Honest Schema Implementation Guide
developed - Effort made to stick to the true intent of the
PIDX Schema
9Concerns
- No standard technical/business message
choreography - Questions of applicability to larger suppliers
- Others existing investment financially and
emotionally in RNIF
10Baker Hughes Integration Strategy
- Relatively new to the game little legacy
messaging to protect and no desire to - Requirements
- Use OFS-Portal competency center
- Support BHIs complex environment
- Support the complexity and variation of our
Customer environment - Avoid customization to the back office
- Leverage industry expertise in B2B transaction
processing - Low cost, low risk entry point
- Result
- OFS-Portal sourced transaction routing
transformation services for its oilfield service
company members

12What we achieved
- Implemented an AS/2 connection between BHI and
Wellogix that connected BHI to MOC and FOC - Connectivity completed in hours
- Developed a series of end-to-end business
acknowledgements - Based on PIDX recommendations for Invoice
Response, and - Between two Wellogix applications and two
Wellogix clients and through two third parties - Project ran from January to May during which we
estimated 20 man-days combined

15Challenges
- Business Messaging in Complex Landscape
- Defining a business process choreography and
format - Passing on the messages across various
counterparty systems - Multi-part Attachments
- Existing GXS version was not Drummond Certified
for MPA - Development of .zip file payload handling
- No in-depth experience in AS/2 in either BHI or
Wellogix - Steep but short learning curve
- Coordinating Numerous Partners
- Aligning people and business processes rather
than negotiating connectivity
16Leveraging the AS/2 Integration - Other
Opportunities
- BHI EDI to MOC
- Passing existing EDI messages through the AS/2 to
ChanneLinx via Wellogix allowed BHI to turn-off
legacy EDI systems - Wellogix Integration to FOC Back Office
- Wellogix used Front-end integration
infrastructure to send business messages to FOC
accounting system - PIDX for the masses, the Wellogix Small Business
Adaptor - Secure, PIDX integration with small suppliers
- Quick, Out of the box connections
- Low cost and reliable
- Leveraging SMB Suppliers middle-tier AS/2
capabilities

18Conclusions
- Our experience shows AS/2
- Reduces cost, complexity and timeline for
connectivity - Lowers the barrier to entry for a wide range of
suppliers operators - Is clearly scalable and is suitable for companies
of all size and capabilities - Provides learning curve savings on subsequent
deployments - Furthermore AS/2 meets all of PIDX TRP
requirements, for example security and
non-repudiation - However, standards for AS/2 functional responses
need to be developed and adopted
