4The TransSLO Project
- The TransSLO EU funded project was designed to
enhance the participation of Slovenia in EU
funded research projects within the EU Framework
program for Research. - To facilitate and stimulate this process the
following activities were planned - To identify the Slovenian research expertise and
strengths - To set up a database on the Slovenian transport
research expertise - To organise a transport research PhD Day
- To organise a TransSLO Workshop, bringing
together experts - To report at the TRA Transport Arena Research
Conference in Ljubljana 21-25 April 2008 - The project is supported by the Slovenian State
Secretary, - Peter Verlic Ph.D.
5The TransSLO Project
Specific ObjectivesTo support knowledge
transfer and experience exchanges within the EU
and specifically target Slovenia and nearby
countries in order to promote transport research
and encourage post graduate transport research at
Universitites.To generate information for
decision makers and politicians on Slovenian,
Balkan and EU transport research priorities. To
ensure dissemination of Slovenia transport
research excellence and capabilities.To ensure
dissemination of the results of the project

- Slovenia has 11 Transport Research Centres
- Focussed on
- 1 focuses on Freight Distribution
- 2 land use (including marine planning)
- 2 general transport including road management and
ITS - 1 focuses on ITS
- 1 concentrates on bus services and lines
- 1 standards and road construction
- 1 maritime and road safety
- 1 rail infrastructure and distribution centres
- 1 urban planning
11The TransSLO Project Database
For the duration of the TransSLO project data are
being registered and added to the existing
knowledge of the transport research capabilities
of Slovenia. All the information is being
complied into a database of expertise so that
Slovenia has an overview of the areas of
transport expertise that are strong and where
there are gaps, which could be filled. This
gathering of information will continue after the
life of the project. This knowledge will also
further facilitate the inclusion of Slovenia in
local, national and European projects and improve
the co-operation and networking capability of the
surface transport research community. If you
are interested in registering your details in the
TransSLO database please follow the link to

12The TransSLO ProjectPhD research day
The TransSLO PhD Transport Research Day
Ljubljana 9 May 2007 In cooperation with the
ISEP Conference
The goal of this PhD Day was to encourage PhD
students who are involved in current
state-of-the-art transport research to present
their work, to encourage other students to engage
in Transport research and to present the
excellence of Slovenian Transport researchers and
those from nearby countries to other
(potentially) interested parties such as ISEP
participants. An professional jury chose the
best PhD study with the most expected impact on
the European transport system. The winning PhD
presentation will be invited to present the work
during the TransSLO session at the TRA Transport
Research Arena Conference
