Why is interferometry interesting?
  • It's cheaper than building a traditional imaging
    system of equivalent resolution.
  • It's sometimes easier to interpret/calibrate date
    from interferometers.
  • The physics is interesting.

What is actually interfering? Could be photons
or other particles. Feynman's construction
predicts interferences of just about anything as
the basis of quantum mechanics. Optical
systems are usually dealt with as quantum
systems. Could be electromagnetic fields. Radio
systems are usually dealt with as classical
EM. How does VLBI work anyways? Good
reference is Born and Wolf, Principles of
optics Crossover point is usually midInfrared,
