Guided Reading

• Each child is somewhere on the path of these 5
  big ideas to becoming an accomplished reader.
• This is where guided reading comes into play.
• Our job is to find out exactly where each child
  is and meet them there and move forward in their
  reading development.

• Why?
• If children are taught at their instructional
  reading level as (opposed to frustration or
  independent level), they make more growth at a
  faster rate.

Leveled Books

• Leveled from A-Z (Fountas and Pinnell)
• The children do not know and we recommend not
  talking with your child about his/her level.

• Develop fluency
• Detect errors and self correct
• Decode unknown words using strategies
• Develop comprehension skills

• Look for Key Clues (pictures)
