ACHIEVMENTS

• Managed to have office space of about 5000
  Sq.ft. free of rent from the State Government.
• Got commitment from the State Government to
  construct a dedicated building for the Regional
  Centre.
• Convinced the State Government to implement
  their desire to train about 35,000 school
  teachers in the State. The sanction has already
  been given for training of about 10,000 teachers
  by the state govt.

ACHIEMENTS

• Got commitment from the State Government to
  ensure safety of 30 ROTs and 2 SITs being
  installed in the State under Rajiv Gandhi Edusat
  Supported Project for Elementary Education.
• Providing full cooperation to State Government
  in setting up Edusat Studio in the RC Building
  as a joint project of the State Government ,
  MHRD and ISRO

ACHIEVMENTS

• Maintained enrolment trend in other programmes
  except Computer Programmes.
• Convinced the GB Pant University for Agriculture
  and Technology to run our Programmes other than
  M. Sc. (DFSM).
• Maintained increasing trend in revenue
  generation
• Kept our expenditure under control

ACHIEVMENTS

• Made Media under our region well aware of the
  relevance of ODL and hungry for News Releases in
  this regard.
• Convinced the State Government to establish
  Directorate of Distance Education in Kumaon
  University Nainital
• Played active role in the establishment of SOU in
  the State.
• Prepared a Concept Paper for Utilisation of
  State Edusat Network and submitted to the State
  Government

MAJOR INNOVATIONS

• Introduced Learners Progress Card to keep track
  of submission of Assignments and Practical
  Attendance Record
• Started asking Learners Feedback on Support
  Services through Questionnaire
• Prepared Guideline for LSC Coordinators/PIC.

FAILURES

• Not been able to bring about 1 Lakh students
  appearing as Private Candidates in the
  examinations of the State Universities under the
  fold of ODL.

USE OF ICT

• Our study shows that 97 of the learners feel the
  need of counselling yet only 33 attend the same.
• Distance from the LSCs is the major reason for
  not attending the counselling
• ICTs may be of great use to overcome this
  constraint.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE OF ICT

• GD and TC through DTH
• Putting GD including TC channel on Prime Band
  be made mandatory for cable
• operators
• Let the RC have an MOU with State Government for
  use of State Edusat Network

SUGGESTIONS

• Some alternative mode of delivery other than our
  existing concept of LSCs be devised to reach the
  unreached in the sparsely populated hill regions
  like Uttaranchal
• ICT enabled Distance Education Access Nodes be
  created in small population pockets in the hill
  and remote areas

SUGGESTIONS

• Full staff strength be given to Regional Centres
• Silver line between academics and Teachers be
  obliterated so that Academics may come under the
  purview of CAS as like the Teachers
• Post of Research Assistant be created to help
  academics at RC level

SUGGESTIONS

• Distance Education Promotion Committee involving
  VCs of the State Universities and Senior
  Officials of the State Governments (s) be created
  at Regional level with mandate to have periodical
  meetings for coordinated campaign for furtherance
  of education through ODL.
• Let all activities of IGNOU under the Region be
  coordinated by RCs.
