The Company Radiy (Ukraine) is the leading
designer and producer of IC systems performed
class A safety functions (by IAEA classification)
of NPPs with reactors of VVER-440 and VVER-1000
type (PWR) which are used in Ukraine.

decisions for IC modernization
projects.Developed digital IC platform permits
the following - using of equipment by the Company Radiy
independently or consisting of hybrid systems
with analogue and old digital equipment - realizing of modernization projects as soon as it
needs for compliance with temporal constraints - easy placement of equipment in the existing units
rooms - using of equipment by the Company Radiy for
different types of operated and perspective
reactors.

Radiy FPGAs using for performing of control
algorithms of IC systems
Such approach allows to simplify IC systems
structure and to reduce of software volume. The
effect consists in reduction of software failures
probability which are common cause failures.

technological algorithms and FPGA-projects
realization permits to simplify development and
verification processes and decrease number of
development errors.FPGA-projects have clear and
good defined structure.

software and life cycle diversity
(NUREG/CR-6303) - different electronic components

10Flexibility of IC platform for integration and
commission by jointing on NPP site with sensors,
actuators and adjacent IC systems including
analog equipment
- The Company Radiy has used the following
principles of IC systems integration - universality of base hardware and software
- universality of interfaces with external systems
- universality of control actuation signals
- flexibility and scalability of types and numbers
of input and output signals - retention of existing cable communications
- embedding of monitors, panels, boards etc. in
existing structure of hybrid Control Rooms.

- possibilities for large IC systems upgrades and
modifications in the future - software and FPGA-projects verification approach
bases on multi-components V-shape life cycle - use multi-components distributed data processing
structure with heterogenic networks - absence of a direct relationship between
computing processes, realized by controllers - separation of diagnosis functions from the main
information and control functions - equipment permits to perform testing and to
confirm compliance with functional and
qualification requirements on producer site
(although final acceptance testing is performed
only on NPP site) - use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products
(for example bundling of workstations) - use of maximal possible quantity of own
pre-developed hardware and software components
with positive service history for design of new
IC systems - compliance with requirements of national and
international safety codes, guides and standards.
12Benefits of IC systems strategy modernization of
the Company Radiy
- reducing the amount of the equipment (30 cabinets
instead of 105 in Control Safety System) - reducing a consumption of energy and
calorification (for example 80 Wt per some
cabinet) it permits to avoid a need of forced
cooling for cabinets - raising of accuracy and speed (200 ms for system
reaction time) of executed controlling and
information function - raising of components of IC systems and
communication links to electromagnetic
influences - enlarging technical diagnostic depth and quality
of results presentation - upgrading a quality of operator interface and
operative information supporting, including
ergonomic feature and aesthetic factors - decreasing a quantity of contacts and terminal
connections - realizing of functions, which previously were
performed by following additional technical
means power supply blocks of sensors,
normalizing converters of input signal, automatic
realization of metrological functions.

- FPGAs use for control algorithms realization,
complete verification on all life cycle stages,
diversity in Reactor Protection Systems for
reducing of software failures risks including
common-cause failures risks - redundancy of network components and their
complete diagnostics for risks reducing of
network components failures - complete validation and qualification testing of
COTS for all types of external impact jointed
with equipment of IC systems for risks
reducing of COTS products failures - configuration management for reducing of
maintainability risks - development of technologies independent from
specific electronic components for risks
reducing of electronic components obsolescence
during IC systems life cycle.

15Development, manufacturing, supplying and
maintenance of the equipment by the Company
Radiy (Ukraine) for NPPs is made in accordance
with the licenses, certificates for quality
control system ISO 90012000 issued by TÜV
Rheinland InterCert Kft., Brussels.
16The new Ukrainian NPPs units Rivne-4 and
Khmelnytsky-2 has been commissioned in 2004 on
the base of equipment of the Company Radiy. In
November 2006 in Brussels took place
international tender for the Project Upgrade of
Control and Protection System electrical
equipment for NPPs unit Khmelnytsky-1.
Consortium of Ukrainian enterprises headed by the
Company Radiy has won this tender.

for Control Safety System has allowed to create
from standard cabinets and blocks the IC
system for automatic regulation, monitoring,
control and protection for research reactor
(WWR-M type) of Nuclear research institute in
Kyiv, Ukraine.

- 1954 - Radiy was established
- 1980th - Radiy was biggest in USSR producer
of - - TV equipment,
- - movable TV stations,
- - TV and radio broadcasting transmitters,
- - cable TV apparatus and dynamic
loudspeakers. - 1982 - 1989 - Radiy has taken part in Buran-
Energia space project (development and supply
equipment for starting complex and flight
control center). - Since 1990 start development and supply IC
systems equipment for NPPs. - 1995 2000 produced and delivered 10 000
functional blocksand 1000 cabinets. - 2001 - new generation IC systems equipment on
the base of FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate
Arrays). Typical block functions was realized in
FPGA (today in operation on NPPs 100 000 new
functional blocks with FPGA).

- The Company Radiy (Kirovograd, Ukraine) is
designer and producer of IC systems for control
and protection systems of NPPs units with
reactors of VVER-440, VVER-1000 type which are
operated in Ukraine. - High-motivated specialists with the following
qualifications work at the Company Radiy - systems analysis and design
- functional design
- software design
- electronic equipment design
- fabrication and testing the systems and device.
- General number worker and specialist 1 200
person ( 300 designers). - The Company Radiy are ready to qualify and
certificate own IC systems in accordance with
codes of countries which are interested in this
equipment buying.
28Conclusion (1)
- At the present time digital equipment platform
produced by the Company Radiy - permits to increase NPPs safety
- is successfully used for modernization of
existing IC systems for different types of
reactors independently or consisting of hybrid
systems - complies with requirements of modern standards to
IC systems - is flexible and universal
- permits to realize of modernization projects as
soon as it needs for compliance with temporal
constraints - is easy placed in the existing units rooms
- does not directly depend from existing electronic
elements - has margins (reserves) in productivity and
possibilities for further development and upgrade.
29Conclusion (2)
- The Company Radiy has powerful manufacturing
and designer resources, a good reputation and
certificated quality system. - Production potentialities of the Company Radiy
amounts full set of IC equipment for 4 NPP
units. - Taking into account the above the equipment
platform produced by the Company Radiy can be
used for reactors of the new generation.
