2What We Did
- Measure signal degradation over distance in
various situations - On flat table surface (Indoors)
- Through concrete floor (indoors)
- On concrete floor (outdoor)
- See whether another mote could be used in between
router/mote to increase signal range.
3Test 1 Indoors / Table
- We moved remote fixed distance away from router
on same horizontal plane, measuring signal
strength at each distance.
4Test 2 Outdoor
- We tried to see whether positioning the router
mote (horizontal or vertical) would affect signal
strength.
5Test 3 Through Concrete
- We tested to see if ping still worked through a
thick concrete floor. - Problem Couldnt tell straight-line distance
from router.

6Test 4 Mote Hopping
- Tried to position motes so that one was in range
of the router and one was only in range of the
other mote. - Repeating the concrete test, it extended range by
17ft - Repeating the outdoor test, extended at least
15ft (we ran out of floorspace)
