test that we did to find the health of the River.
  • Our class did many different test to find the
    health of the River.
  • First thing that we did was find the temperature.
  • The first test that we did was dissolved oxygen.
  • The second test we did was PH.
  • The third test we did was nitrate.
  • The forth test was phosphate.
  • We were set up in gropes to find the results for
    the tests.

3
TEmperature.
  • The reason that our temperature and other test
have different results is we were in 3 gropes and
we were in 3 different parts of the river.
  • The way we found the temperature was we had water
thermometer in the river for about a minutes and
take it out and read it.
  • The results for the temperature is 18ºc, 16ºc,
    18ºc, and 16ºc. For a mean of 17ºc.
  • Even though we were in 3 groups some did more
    than 1 temperature.
  • This is one of the thermometer that we used to
find the temperature of the river
  • After we put it in the river it would glow the
number that the river temperature is.

4
First test Dissolved oxygen
  • Dissolved oxygen (DO) is important to the health
of aquatic ecosystems.(from low cost water
    monitoring.)
  • Our test results for gropes that did DO are4 ppm
4 ppm and 8 ppm resulting in 61 (not bad, but
    not great either).
  • The way we found the DO for the river was by
dropping 2 tablets into a tube of water from the
    rive.
  • This is similar to what we looked at to mach up
    the colors.
  • Ours was more in the middle of the 2, and 5.

5
Second test pH
  • This is similar to the one we looked at when we
    did our test pH.
  • pH is a measure of acidic or basic quality of
water. (From Low cost water monitoring.)
  • The way we found pH was by adding one tablet to a
test tube of river water, we let it sit for a
minute and matched it to a color on the
chart.(like shown in the picture below.)
  • Our test results for for pH are 6.5, 7.5, 8.0
,6.5, 7.5, 7.5 we have more than three is because
some gropes did more than one test. For a mean
    of 7

6
Third testNitrate
  • Nitrate is a nutrient needed by all plants and
animals to build protein.(From low cost water
    monitoring.)
  • Our test results for nitrate are 0ppm. There are
only one because we only had one grope do
    nitrate.
  • The way we found nitrate was by adding 1 nitrate
tablet to the test tube of river water and
rotated it back and forth for a minute.
  • This is similar to the one we looked at for the
    river.
  • Ours was the wight, is 0 ppm.

7
forth testPhosphate
  • Phosphate is a nutrient needed for plant and
animal growth and is also a fundamental element
in metabolic reactions.(From low cost water
    monitoring.)
  • Our test results for phosphate are 1 ppm. We
only have one because we had one grope do the
    test.
  • The way we found nitrate was by adding one
phosphate tablet to a test tube of river water.
  • This is similar to the one we used to find ours.
  • ours was the first light blue one.
  • Less than 10 ppm

conclusion
  • After all the test that we did on the color
charts there were light color and dark color ours
were the lighter colors. After I looked at the
results twice I found out that our river seems to
be pretty healthy and safe for most of the
animals to live in. I am glad that our river is
fairly healthy for the environment and the
animals that have a home in the Black River in
    Cavendish.
