  • When students write sentences they often fall
    into the deadly traps of fragments and run-ons!
  • Today we will the solutions to these scary
    mistakes!

Fragment
  • A fragment is not a whole sentence because it is
    missing either a subject or a verb.

Fragment Examples
  • Fragment -gtSlipping down the muddy bank and
    plopping into the river.
  • Who slipped down the bank? Whats going on?

How to Fix
  • Put the missing subject or predicate so that the
    sentence makes sense!
  • The big bear slipped down the muddy river.

Run-ons
  • A run-on sentence is really two or more sentences
    that run together without proper punctuation.
  • Example It may rain today take your umbrella.

How to Fix
  • You may either join the sentences with a comma or
    conjunction.
  • Or
  • You may make two separate sentences
  • Example It may rain today, so take your
    umbrella.
  • Example It may rain today. Take your umbrella.
