Tutorial
- This tutorial will describe how to navigate the
section of Gramene that provides information on
Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL). QTL are a
statistical creation that identifies a particular
region of the genome as containing a gene (or
genes) that is associated with the trait being
assayed or measured.
2Search either by entering a term or browsing by
trait category.
1. Enter a term for a specific search. For a
broader definition of the term, insert after
the term (wildcard).
2. Filter your query to a specific field or
choose All Fields.
3. Browse by trait category (See Slide 5 for more
info).

Click on the column titles to view a sorted
display list.
Select to view the QTL detail page.
4QTL Detail Page
Gramene-assigned QTL accession ID
QTL symbol as assigned in the publication.
Gramene-assigned standardized trait symbol links
to other QTL with the same symbol.
Trait category to which the trait belongs. Links
to a trait browser which displays all the traits
listed in Gramene that belong to this category.
Linkage group to which the QTL has been mapped
links to all the QTL mapped to this linkage
group.
Links to the QTL map on Comparative Map Viewer
(CMap) (See Slide 6 for more information).
Curator comments (if any).
Links to the Gramene literature database.
5Results for browsing by trait category
There were 36 traits found under the category
Quality.
Click on the column titles to view a sorted
display list.
Click on Trait Name to view all the QTL detected
for this trait (See Slides 3 4).
6QTL and CMap (CMap tutorial available also)
Enter a QTL accession ID to highlight a specific
QTL.
CMap shows QTL trait symbols as features. Click
on any feature to view more information about
that feature (See Slide 8).

Entering a trait symbol in the highlight box will
highlight all QTL with that trait symbol.
8QTL Feature Detail Page
Feature accession ID is also the QTL accession
ID.
Feature name is the QTL trait symbol.
Feature alias is the QTL trait name.
Select to view the QTL Detail Page (See Slide 4).
