Self Help Group
Self-help group has become an integral part of
treatment for emotional, behavioral and all
other mental health problems. Many people find
those self-help groups as a valuable resource for
recovery and for empowerment.
Self-help support groups bring together people
with common experiences and problems.  Participant
s share their experiences, provide understanding,
support and help each other. They find new ways
to cope with problems and to deal with stressful
situation.

Business Community Support Group
Our business Community Support group always
played vital role in social activities. We used
to collect our charity money and served for the
education, recovery of drought victim, helping
poor and deserving and food for prisoners. There
were many poor street addicts in our business
market and we wanted to send them for treatment
and rehab in any charity hospital, but we came to
know that there is not any free treatment and
rehab center for drug addicts in Pakistan. Our
business community that is always in forefront of
noble causes took the bold step of providing 100
percent Free Treatment and Rehabilitation to Drug
addicts. As we learnt to know that it is a noble
cause and there was no Free Treatment and
Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts in
Pakistan.
  • Business Community support group is providing
moral and Financial support for treatment
    services.
  • Due to the cooperation of this group ,
the small plant of NHCC has become a
    fruitful tree.

Rational to Build Support Group
  • Most of the addicts hail from slum areas of
Karachi city and are leading miserable lives.
They need money to run their families and to get
drugs, as a result, they get involve in street
crimes such as, mobile snatching, stealing, drug
peddling and illicit sexual relation as well.
  • Approximately, 10 to 15 spouses of drug addicts
are involved in prostitution in order to meet the
    financial problems.
  • Sometimes, old parents and siblings are compelled
to beg on streets that has put bad impact on the
    society.

7
Rational to Build Support Group
  • There were no concept of self help group
on a large scale. People were trying
haphazardly at their own and they had strong
believe that recovery is not possible.
  • Recovering, families and community were facing
several problems. Some of them are
  • - Sustainable and sober recovery
  • - Reintegration of families with addicts
  • - To merge them with community
  • - Searching for employment of recovering
  • There were no technical guidance existed to
establish a strong bonding among recovering
addicts , their families and community.
  • Keeping in mind all these facts, self help groups
have been formed not only to help the addicts and
their families but also keep them away from
    criminal activities.

8
There was a strong need to build a bridge among
Recovering, Families and Community and this dream
becomes true when we learned from the training
workshops of Colombo Plan DAP that for the
solidarity of Treatment Rehabilitation there
are some basic steps to follow.
  • Drug Prevention
  • Pre Treatment Interventions
  • After Care Services
  • Full involvement of every segment of society
is essential e.g., Ex Drug Addicts, Families,
Community. For this purpose we established three
    types of self help groups
  • Brothers of NHCC working as Ex Drug Addicts
    Support Groups,
  • Family of NHCC working as Family Support Group
  • Friends of NHCC working as Community Support
    Group.
