Run Meeting Endcap Muon

CSCs This Week
  • Dedicated integration session of full trigger
    chain CSC/CSC(DT)-TF/GMT/GT 3days
  • quickly re-established the CSC-muon path
  • readjust the CSC FED Latency accordingly
  • followed by successful integration of the two
    muon triggers (CSCDT) using the full trigger
    path (run 4593).
  • for event displays and more details , see e-log
    entries in CSC and Shift sections
  • Dedicated integration of the CSC and DT
    TrackFinders
  • for the overlap region triggers
  • DT stubs could already be seen at the CSC-TF
    throughout most of Phase 2
  • DT implemented the appropriate delays at the
    DT-TF allowing it to observe the CSC-TF stubs too

CSCs This Week
  • High Rate Tests
  • option 1 reconfigure the trigger primitives to
    allow very high rates.
  • Cathode-only trigger, 1-out-6 layers and lower
    the comparator thresholds 65kHz (36 CSCs)
  • non-standard trigger resulted in some timing
    issues which repeatedly raised sTTS osy/errors at
    the FED electronics (which is what they are
    supposed to do!)
  • option 2 use external 100kHz (random) trigger
  • DAQ throttling reduced the rate to 48kHz and
    collected 40M events
  • mostly empty events as these are not triggered by
    the CSCs
  • but DDU headers and trailers are payload too!
  • Endcap RPC and CSC integration
  • unfortunately, endcap RPCs were already
    disconnected from the HV.

MTCC 2 Lessons
  • time needed to digest these are only the first
    bullets
  • Synchronization, Synchronization, Synchronization
  • dedicated CSC Taskforce charged to come up with
    procedures to scale up the synchronization from
    36 to 468 chambers.
  • From 4 to 60 peripheral crates
  • From 1 trigger sector to 6 per endcap
  • From 1 endcap to 2 endcaps
  • A live system is very useful.
  • The EMu community is planning to continue a
    minimal slice test on the minus endcap.
  • Non-expert exposure is very useful
  • This was the first time that the CSC operation
    was handed over to a 24/7 shift crew. Important
    feedback and a good stimulus for writing
    documentation!
