• For the past 3 summers, Tuba City H.S. students
  travel south to the University of Arizona to
  participate in a 4 ½ week intensive English
  program.

These programs were teacher organized.

• They were set up because the students viewed H.S.
  as an end not a stepping stone.

About the programs

• The programs were used as an important link
  between the usually segmented domains of
  secondary and postsecondary education. They were
  used as an instructional mechanism to assist in
  the difficult transition from H.S. to college.

Rose meets with Michelle

• Michelle Taigue is the instructor of an Ancient
  and Contemporary Mythologies class given in the
  summer session. Rose visited the class in which
  Michelle taught and was very impressed.

• She knows how languages and traditions could
  limit and oppress, but she knew as well what was
  possible. (of the students)
