• Objective To recognize diction and literary
  device and be able to articulate clearly the
  effects and purposes of those devices.

• Close read the ode, squiggle lining figurative
  techniques present in the poem. Write to the side
  which technique it is.
• Underline other techniques (sound device,
  symbolism, imagery, etc.) and label to the side
  what techniques they are.
• At the bottom of page or on the back of the page
• Explain what level of diction the poem is written
  in with examples of words/phrases that back up
  your evaluation.
• List 3 examples of concrete diction from the
  poem.
• List 2 examples of abstract diction from the
  poem.
• List the 2 most surrealistic images (in your
  opinion) in the poem.
• Explain the tone of the poem and list five
  words/phrases/lines that contribute to that tone.
• Write a one-two sentence summary explaining what
  this poem is about.
• On your own (lined) paper, write a two-chunk
  paragraph in which you explain how the poet uses
  one technique to build meaning in the poem.
