Title: Job

1
Job
Job was a very wealthy man who loved God and had
many children. One day, Satan made a bet with
God that Job only loved him because God blessed
him. He said that he could make Job curse God.
God gave Satan permission to test Job as long as
he didnt kill him. Satan causes his livestock
to be stolen, his children and their families to
be killed, his wealth to disappear, and his skin
to be afflicted by a terrible disease. Job still
does not curse God, even though his own wife
urges him to do so. Job is so distraught over
his affliction that he asks God why he was ever
born. He proves his worth, and eventually
everything is returned to him. http//www.donaldse

What does it mean if someone is compared to Job?

Sisyphus
Sisyphus was the son of Aeolus, the king of
Thessaly. He was sly and evil and used to
way-lay travelers and murder them. He betrayed
the secrets of the gods and chained the god of
death, Thanatos, so the deceased could not reach
the underworld. Hades himself intervened and
Sisyphus was severely punished. In the realm of
the dead, he is forced to roll a block of stone
against a steep hill, which tumbles back down
when he reaches the top. Then the whole process
starts again, lasting all eternity. http//www.pa

What would an allusion to Sisyphus mean in
literature?
